Gardenscaping

The Royal capital of Lesalia

We finally made it, the royal capital. Once we were through the gates, Ramza excused himself and ran off to see his brother Zalbaag, who was stationed here.

What use could it be trying to convince a seasoned knight and commander of the Order of the Northern Sky to cease this warmongering, Navarre had asked him before we reached Lesalia, but Ramza was stubborn. He was certain his brother would listen. The same brother who looked on as Tietra was shot down by Argath, the very same one… How could this go wrong?

So as we waited for the inevitable bad news brought to us by a gutted Ramza after we had paid the local outfitters a visit, we all sat ourselves down in the local tavern. Over a drink, we listened to rumours, but nothing new came to our ears. But there were several new errands which needed running, and after an ale or two, I decided that we were the best-suited candidates for them!

We were still waiting for Ramza, so what else could we do?

We had only just arrived back from our errands and decided to sneak into the city via the castle postern. There was no one there, except for some finely detailed statues of knights, placed in a rather strange pattern. Had there been an ordinance on gardenscaping or something? Either way, the sculptor must have been quite the talented artist, they even managed to carve out the fine details of the terrified looks on those knights, almost as if they had been real Humes turned to stone — why would a council agree on such terrifying statues to adorn their gates, I wonder?

We entered the tavern to report on our errands, and there was geomancer Ramza, impatiently tapping his foot as he saw us enter. Agrias and Mustadio were sitting some ways beside him and behind him stood… Alma?!

He had to keep it short. Every moment waiting for us was putting all of us in harm’s way, he said. The cardinal’s body was found, and now we were all framed for his murder, accused of intentionally killing him to get that auracite from him. We were now heretics, like as not. So we had to leave the city and stay on the move. Luckily, he explained, Alma had an idea of where to go next. She had seen such a stone before when she was younger, at the Orbonne Monastery. A bunch of heretics like ourselves would never be allowed access to it, so she had insisted on joining her twin brother.

Right then, Orbonne it is, then. Unless there are more errands on the way over there. Even heretics need to earn gil.

I am Bathsua, heretic squire, and these are my memoirs.
