I admit, we probably weren’t as prepared as we should have been when we set out from Dorter to Lesalia. I hardly remembered who had taken on which job and when we came across a young man in dire straits, I was surprised to find that Ramza had taken on the job of monk and was absolutely useless in this setting.

We were set on rescuing a man who had hidden away from a bunch of thieves after he had wandered unknowingly into their den. Or had he? I mean, his big mouth did seem to attract trouble…

Regardless, Ramza decided that we needed to save the young man, as he was clearly in trouble, but the fellow ensconced himself on the thieves’ den’s roof, and there was no way any of us could reach him – or the orator rogue who led the band of thieves. We were in a pickle ourselves.

Once a thief…

Though we were unprepared, with Ramza being a monk and none of us equipped with the ability to jump high enough to get on that roof to lend succor to that poor bigmouthed fellow, at least my ability to summon espers kept the enemies at bay at any height. There were also two thieves with us who would give the other band of thieves a run for their gil. Or their weapons, or whatever our merry thieves were able to snatch off the enemy chemists and thieves.

Helped a little by this mysterious loudmouth, who apparently had the ability to cast all kinds of time magic on the enemy in the form of what he introduced as celestial stasis, we looted some mythril guns and daggers as the enemy just watched paralyzed and unable to react as we took them out like it was nothing. I did understand now why Orran, as he later introduced himself, had such a big mouth. By Ajora, I wouldn’t want to be caught on the opposing camp if I were to come across him again.

He kindly declined Ramza’s offer to join our merry band to Lesalia, stating that he sought to go as far away from that city as possible. And that was the last we saw of him – – for now.

I am Bathsua, the unprepared, and these are my memoirs.
