Running errands

Dorter

We finally made it into Dorter proper. Gaff casually cleaned the blood off his sword while Ladd had decided he’d seen enough. The mercenary life was not for him, and he left our ranks. But there were still Alicia and Lavian to keep us company, and if I am allowed to be honest, it was a breath of fresh air to have more girls joining the ranks. Agrias wasn’t much on talking, she preferred to keep practising and maintaining her sword techniques wherever we stopped, but both Lavian and Alicia loved to chat away. Carmen and I had been the only girls in the group for a year now, but both Alicia and Lavian assured us that they would be staying as long as Agrias would remain.

The tavern in Dorter was full of hot new gossip. As Carmen and I brought the Lionsguard knights out for a drink, there was wild speculation over which duke would be appointed guardian of Prince Orinus in the wake of King Ondoria’s death. Surely a guardian must be picked soon, one punter mused, ere the prince himself would be appointed Regent of Ivalice, and how would they look if a three-year-old bairn would rule them all? Another table was filled with talk of a widespread peasant revolt. The fifty years war had clearly left its mark and taxes had been raised to refill the treasuries. But there was an unseen drought this season, and a lot of crops were lost. It always starts somewhere, a punter pointed out. Soon the ales here would cost them a fortune. Something had to be done about it!

Nothing of note, for now, we decided. No one had seen a Chocobo riding by with two riders, one rather unconscious. But the tavernmaster did have an errand he would have liked for us to handle. Bandits on a trade route between Dorter and Gollund were targeting Bacchus Winery’s chocobos, and they were suffering a loss. Of course, the tavernmaster would have some gain if we handled this for him because wine under threat costs him dearly, and it would cost his punters dearly too. So Navarre and I set out to set those bandits straight while the others ground up some experience.

Eagrose Castle

We went from town to town, picking up errands in every town as we went. We mined, and we defended until every requester was satisfied. We didn’t find anything of note, but I’m sure we will if we can bring someone else along. I’ve a mind to ask Alicia or Lavian along next time, but perhaps it is a better idea to give chase and find princess Ovelia first, before we go on any errand again.

I am Bathsua, the courier of errands, and these are my memoirs.
