8 Gemini
We pressed on, the slaughter of that dragon and the scent of victory still fresh in our minds. Beyond the Lenalian Plateau lay the Fovoham Windflats, and beyond the Windflats lay Ziekden Fortress.
We had slain Milleuda, and there was no doubt that the Order of the Northern Star was closing in on the fortress from the opposite side now. If we just pressed on a little more, we would have Tietra freed before fighting would break out.
Surely Wiegraf would release her. He had said it himself; he was not in the habit of taking people hostage. But then, why hadn’t we found Tietra wandering around the streets of Gariland yet? Something was not quite right. There was still so little we knew about the Corpse Brigade.
One thing was certain, the Corpse Brigade had become desperate as they were being cornered from all sides, and that would not fare Tietra well.
Fovoham Windflats
The wings of the windmills had caught full wind today, and so had we. We all but blew in when who would appear just outside the Windflat Mill but Wiegraf. Ramza tried to reason with him, but he would not hear us. Milleuda was his sister, it appeared, and her being slain by mere squires did not sit well with him. She deserved a more honourable death, and there was no tale that Ramza could spin, that could convince him to give up his fight.
After all, it was Ramza’s own brother, of whom he was convinced he would treat with Wiegraf, who was behind the kidnapping of the Marquis, Wiegraf revealed. We were all stunned. Had we been chasing the wrong men? Ramza saw red. Dycedarg and Zalbaag were his brothers! He trusted them with his life. He was all but certain of their integrity!
We should see for ourselves, Wiegraf decided before he disappeared. He would not allow himself to die here, not at the hands of mere squires, and he had become too weak to exact revenge for Milleuda. Then just like that, he vanished! Into thin air, he disappeared!
I had just been struck down by one of Wiegraf’s blows, so I thought my mind was playing me for a fool. But when Delita got up again thanks to one of Greg’s concoctions, he said he had seen the same. But something else was on his mind as well. Wiegraf had claimed that Tietra was held in the mill and he had to see for himself!
But she was gone. The mill was empty. There was no other way to go but towards Ziekden Fortress.
I am Bathsua, certainly NOT a spoony bard, and these are my memoirs.
